United Nations The Hague Immersion Programme

An opportunity for participants to fully immerse themselves into the city of peace and justice, while gaining fist hand experience of the United Nations has arisen. The Hague Immersion Programme is open to everyone with a deep interest in the UN, international law and the city of peace and justice. Participants can come from the public or private sector, NGOs, think tanks and academia.

UNITAR is delighted to deliver its second and third editions of the UN Hague Immersion Programme to the Hague, Netherlands. UNITAR will host most of the activities in the historic Peace Palace in The Hague, the headquarters of the International Court of Justice (ICJ). They will consist of a nuanced balance of expert lectures, training workshops, private guided tours and public hearing sessions.

The UN Hague Immersion programme´s purpose is to equip participants with knowledge and skills in law and diplomacy, empowering them to work more effectively in any international environment. It further aspires to offer access to The Hague’s UN institutions and staff to build up networks and gain insights into future career steps.

The UN Hague Immersion programme serves to provide an overview of the UN and its legal mechanisms in the city of peace and justice. It will help participants build solid ground knowledge of topics in international affairs, deliver training in core diplomatic skills, and offer activities with the following The Hague-based agencies:

  • The International Court of Justice (ICJ)
  • The International Criminal Court (ICC)
  • The Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT)
  • The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW)
  • United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI)

UNITAR’s The Hague Immersion Programme will also provide a focus on career development in the United Nations as well as on legal knowledge and skills. Slots will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. At the end of the programmes, participants will receive a UNITAR certificate of completion.
