The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an intergovernmental organisation committed to advancing security of energy supply, economic growth and environmental sustainability through energy policy co-operation. The IEA operates as an autonomous body within the framework of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Both the OECD and the IEA seek opportunities to work with an increasing number of non-members of growing importance to the world economy.

The Agency aims to foster the contribution of the energy sector economic development and environmental sustainability.

The IEA seeks to recruit several energy analysts, to constitute a pool of candidates for current and upcoming needs, in order to work with, among others, the teams responsible for the World Energy Outlook, Energy Technology Perspectives, Clean Energy Transitions, Energy Efficiency, energy markets, and contribute to analysis of long-term regional and sectoral energy trends, future technology choices, market developments.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in energy analysis with a focus on one or multiple sectors (like industry, transport, buildings, power generation, low-carbon fuel supply, fossil-fuel markets, renewable technologies). The selected candidates will contribute to the analysis and drafting of IEA high-profile thematic publications across a large range of energy topics (like country net-zero roadmaps, technology roadmaps and sectoral deep dives, market reports, clean energy transitions). Main Responsibilities of the Energy Analysts
Research and Analysis Undertaking quantitative and qualitative analysis of energy trends and policies at the global, regional and country level.
Carry out analytical work on assessing the status, costs, prospects and potential of technologies in the electricity and energy sectors, as well as in end-use sectors.
Working with policy makers to collaboratively develop analysis, strategies and policies to support goals in the field of energy.
Provide the Secretariat with insights and updates concerning status of technologies, progress in the field, innovation and R&D priorities.
Co-author and contribute to relevant IEA outputs, including project reports, web content, training material, presentations and input to other IEA products.
Seeking opportunities to attract funding from like-minded partners. Liaison and Outreach Coordinate the Secretariat support with relevant stakeholders and partners.
Foster their interaction and collaboration with the IEA’s committees and standing groups.
Collaborate with relevant colleagues across the Agency in support of the broader IEA efforts and to strengthen IEA engagement with other collaborative platforms.
Promote the work of the IEA externally to a wide range of audiences through organising and participating in workshops, making presentations and holding bi-lateral meetings.
Participate in preparations for meetings of IEA standing committees, working parties and other groups as required; participate in relevant meetings of other international organisations; provide support for the development of reports, analyses and information items for these meetings.
Maintain contacts with members of national delegations, other international organisations, representatives of industry, and other institutions involved in energy market assessments.

Energy Analysts Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic Background: An advanced university degree in physical sciences, engineering, economics, energy policy, political science or other relevant disciplines.

Professional Background:
A minimum of three, preferably five years’ experience in the field of energy, including a good understanding of energy policies.
Experience in working with committees or international partnerships, facilitating dialogue and building consensus. 
Experience in government energy policy development would be an asset.
Excellent understanding of the energy sector and of energy technology research and innovation. Proven analytical experience and strong drafting skills, as demonstrated by past work (publications, reports, quantitative analysis, operative models and/or published papers).
Languages: An excellent written and oral command of English. Good knowledge of other language(s) would be an asset.

Skills
Demonstrated ability to digest, interpret, and evaluate energy policy information, digest policy information into usable variables that can be used to compare across geographies and be used to calibrate analysis and modelling, and be able to write cogently on key energy topics and the role of policy in that context.
Demonstrated capability to plan and manage projects; and prepare reports on technical issues suitable for a more general policy audience.

What the OECD offers
Depending on level of experience, monthly salary starts at either 6,672 EUR or 8,232 EUR, plus allowances based on eligibility, exempt of French income tax.

Selection Process
For retained candidates, written tests/video-recorded interviews are foreseen towards mid-April and panel interviews are planned around mid-May. This is a recruitment to develop a roaster, several candidates may be pre-selected and further interviews will follow in order to assess the suitability of the profiles towards specific needs. Please note that our Rules and Regulations stipulate that the mandatory retirement age is 65.
