Overview

TrustAfrica is a pan African foundation that works to strengthen African agency to address the most difficult challenges confronting the continent.

TrustAfrica is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Officer for its new Youth Engagement initiative – the African Youth Panel (AYP). The African Youth Panel is a pan African, participatory action research initiative that will operate in 10 countries as a platform for young Africans to identify issues/barriers to accessing dignified and fulfilling work in their communities/sectors of interest and through meaningful community mobilization/engagement, applied research, and advocacy contribute to solving these identified problems in a rigorous and systematic way.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge and experience in participatory research, data analyst, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning.

Research Officer Responsibilities

  • Working hand in hand with the Project Manager & the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officer to develop and refine the impact strategy, with a key eye on implementation of this strategy being led by the Research Officer.
  • Collaborating with young research assistants during field work to ensure that research methodologies are properly executed.
  • Contextualizing research needs based on assessments and aligning with ethical research guidelines with each demographic keeping in mind the sensitivities of working with young people and people from marginalized communities.
  • Creating and implementing data management collection techniques that are unique, vibrant and accessible to young people in various geographies.
  • Automation of Impact insights and results to provide a thorough and interactive impact report/visualization.
  • Analyzing data to determine better ways to implement program/project guidelines.
  • Identifying program/project needs based on data collected and analyzed.
  • Participating in all meetings and convenings to collect data
  • Ensuring that all changes in program/project and outcomes are well documented
  • Performing data validation and implementing quality control measures to ensure the continued success of project.
  • Present research results to committee.
  • Use research results to write reports, papers and reviews and present findings in journals and conferences
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the Project Manager and Programs Director.

Research Officer Requirements

  • A post graduate qualification in a relevant area for the role mainly in data science, impact analysis, influencing policy
  • Experience in social and behavioral change
  • Experience in budget management
  • Experience working with development projects in International NGOs.
  • Experience managing large amounts of data and understanding how to process that data for practical applications.
  • More than 4 years of experience with project management or program analysis. Relevant research methodologies, and a demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying advocacy, inclusion, accountability and influencing as well as inclusive systemic change related ME&L.
  • Great data and analytical skills to interpret various statistics and data pieces to make accurate and valuable recommendations.
  • Impressive communication and listening skills to interact with project lead and staff to determine their challenges and how to use computer programs to fix them.
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills and an ability to work with digital online record systems an added advantage.
  • Strong practical, analytical and conceptual thinking skills, able to translate complex issues into simple, workable indicators, actions, and plans
  • Excellent ability to set clear priorities, objectives, and work allocations, tracking progress against plans and taking appropriate action to ensure targets are met.
  • Excellent understanding of different principles and aspects ensuring program quality (for example partnership, participation and inclusion, accountability, innovation, systemic change, gender, influencing monitoring, evaluation, and learning) and how these can be incorporated into different interventions.
  • Ability to lead and work cooperatively within cross functional teams and diverse backgrounds and network effectively.
  • Ability to work independently, remotely with minimum supervision, multi-task, and process information into action proactively.
  • Fluency in English and at least working knowledge of French
