About APRI

APRI – Africa Policy Research Institute is a Berlin-based, independent, non-partisan policy institute researching key policy issues affecting the African continent. APRI has three main program areas: economy & society, Africa’s Digital Agenda, and climate change.

About the Role

APRI, under the climate change Program, is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Research Assistant. Under the guidance of the Head of Program, the Research Assistant will support the team in research activities, stakeholder engagement planning, developing knowledge products, and dissemination efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the preparation of project objectives and implementation strategies. 
  • Contribute to research efforts by conducting literature reviews, data collection, and analysis. 
  • Assist in synthesizing and analyzing research findings, identifying trends, and extracting relevant information to support the project’s objectives.
  • Contribute to the preparation of research reports, policy briefs, and other project-related documents.
  • Assist in the preparation of project documentation, such as progress reports, presentations, and final project reports.
  • Maintain project files, records, and documentation 
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure project deliverables meet defined standards.
  • Support the development and implementation of communication strategies to raise awareness of projects and the program objectives.
  • Assist in organizing workshops, seminars, and training sessions to disseminate project findings, best practices, and policy recommendations.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project-related communications materials, including presentations, fact sheets, and website content.
  • Identify key target audiences and develop strategies for engaging and reaching them.

Qualifications

  • Current enrollment in or completed a graduate degree program in a relevant field such as environmental science, climate change, international relations, or policy.
  • At least 3 years of experience in research and project support or related roles, preferably in environmental sustainability or climate change.
  • Familiarity with climate change issues.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and ensure attention to detail.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient in using productivity tools such as project management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and collaboration platforms.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of the Nigerian oil and gas sector or experience working in Nigeria would be an advantage.
