Research Associate Role Description
There is an opening for a 5-year postdoctoral position in the Department of Energy Engineering and Climate Protection of Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin), with the potential for extension. TU Berlin is looking for a positive, excellent, and highly motivated experienced Research Associate or researcher to join the research group Energy Engineering and Climate Protection. You will work on the design of advanced energy technologies and the automation of transient optimization tools for efficient zero-emission energy-conversion systems that are affordable and socially beneficial. You will collaborate closely with the chair of the group and fellow researchers and will support the team in both research and teaching efforts. You will have the opportunity to participate creatively with other national and international institutes, as well as industry partners on energy transition issues. You will also have the opportunity to assume a leadership role in projects and new collaborations on future research initiatives, engage with current partners to secure further research funding, and prepare proposals with current partners and other stakeholders.
TU Berlin work for a future resilient energy sector with focus on the dynamic evaluation and optimization of energy-conversion systems based on renewable energy and open-access optimization tools. The postdoctoral position is available for 5 years (Degree of Habilitation) with the possibility of further extension at the end of this period,
Requirements
- Successfully completed academic studies (Master, Diploma, or equivalent) and PhD in energy or process engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, computer engineering, or a related field
- Excellent publication record
- International experience
- Experience with third-party funding ( e.g., European Individual Postdoctoral Marie Curie Fellowship, Horizon projects, or to have initiated other equivalent funding)
- Extremely strong written and verbal English communication skills (minimum C1)
- Willingness to learn German
Preference will be given to applicants who have knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Proven knowledge of energy-conversion concepts and evaluation methods (thermodynamic and economic analyses)
- Experience with simulation tools, like EbsilonProfessional and AspenPlus
- Experience with LCA tools ( e.g., SimaPro )
- Strang programming skills in Python, Julia or other programming languages
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to changing needs
- Proven track record of interdisciplinary work and multicultural collaboration
- Use of artificial intelligence in energy applications
- Experience working with state-of-the-art climate data
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and creatively
- Strong written and oral communication skills in German or willingness to acquire the missing language skills
