Context

Prospect is the only open-source based platform that automatically collects, harmonises, aggregates, analyses and displays data from any modern, sustainable energy solution that contributes to energy access. With Prospect companies can securely share their data, gain valuable insights and even help raise finance; subsidy programmes or investors can easily access verified results; and governments can confidently track the real-time state of electrification in their country. Prospect collects data from various sources, including smart meters, IoT devices, mobile money transactions, and other digital platforms.

Prospect is a partnership between the Access to Energy Institute (A2EI), a not-for-profit research and development organisation headquartered in Germany, in charge of implementing and operating the data platform, and GET.invest, a European programme that mobilises investment in renewable energy. Contributions by public donors such as the European Union, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden and Austria, ensure that Prospect is an open source, open access solution serving the public good.

Prospect is looking to build a pool of in-country customer support experts that can advise users of the platform on the import and analysis of their data. This current call is to identify and train a pipeline of up to 10 female trainees on the use of Prospect (through an all-expenses-paid in-person initial training) and support them with paid on the job training on onboarding and advising users of the platform. Following this step, the trainees will be better equipped in setting up their own commercial services around the use of the free and open-source platform Prospect.

Training for Women in Tech Role Description

As a trainee to become an in-country Prospect expert, you will participate in an in-person initial training and continued on-the-job training with the aim to support future users of the platform and liaise with the GET.invest and A2EI teams on platform feedback and development. As Training for Women in Tech in-country Prospect experts (following this training), consultants can develop their own commercial advisory service, based on the actual needs arising from the users of the Prospect platform.

Key Responsibilities of In-Country Prospect Experts

  • Support existing and future users of the platform, including the presentation of Prospect to stakeholders, carrying out demonstrations, onboarding new users, supporting users in the import and cleaning of data, supporting them in understanding and visualising their data, and advising companies on how to better use their data.
  • Liaise with the GET.invest and A2EI teams on platform feedback and development, including identifying anddocumenting bugs and feature requests via the Gitlab ticketing system, testing out platform improvementswith users, identifying additional potential for Prospect in-country, supporting GET.invest on country-wide orstakeholder-specific dialogue and A2EI on the technical platform development.

Training Programme

  • Participate in a 4-day in-person training programme on Prospect and its functionalities (all expenses paid).
  • Continued on-the-job training by supporting 1-2 users in the onboarding of Prospect, under the guidance of aGET.invest and/or A2EI mentor (paid consultancy).
  • Network with the other in-country experts and exchange experiences amongst each other.

Candidate Profile:

  • Female professionals with at least 2 years of work experience in data analytics, business intelligence, software development, or similar.
  • Citizenship of a country in Sub Saharan Africa.
  • Background in tech touching on aspects like: advanced experience in SQL, PostgreSQL databases, Python, or MS Excel, experience with the use of visualisation tools such as Grafana, Tableau, or PowerBI.
  • Familiarity with open-source-based platforms is an advantage.
  • Fluency in French or English, ideally both.
  • Preference will be given to candidates based in Prospect priority countries (Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia).

Expected Outcomes

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of Prospect and its functionalities (e.g. how to import data into Prospect, how to analyse data and use it to gain insights for users).
  • Acquire the experience to support (future) users of the platform such as solar companies and government
    organisations.
  • Become part of a network of Prospect experts across Africa, as potential future service providers and ready to assist in the platform’s implementation.
