APRI – Africa Policy Research Institute is a Berlin-based, independent, non-partisan policy institute researching key policy issues affecting the African continent. APRI has three main program areas: economy & society, Africa’s Digital Agenda, and climate change.

Role Description

APRI, under the climate change Program, is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Project Intern to provide support to the Nigerian Methane Mitigation Project. The Intern will work closely with the project team to assist in various project activities, gaining valuable experience in research, stakeholder engagement, and policy analysis related to methane mitigation and reduction in the Nigerian oil and gas sector. The Project Intern will assist in conducting research on methane emissions in the Nigerian oil and gas sector, with stakeholder engagement, policy analysis and documentation, as well as communication and dissemination work. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to a meaningful project while developing skills and knowledge in the field of environmental sustainability and climate protection

Responsibilities

Research Assistance:

  • Assist in conducting research on methane emissions in the Nigerian oil and gas sector, including data collection, literature reviews, and analysis of existing policies and initiatives.
  • Support the project team in gathering relevant information and data, organizing research findings, and contributing to the preparation of reports and briefs.

Stakeholder Engagement Support:

  • Assist in the coordination of stakeholder consultations, workshops, and meetings, including logistical arrangements, participant communications, and material preparation.
  • Attend meetings and take minutes to capture key discussion points and action items.
  • Support the project team in documenting stakeholder inputs and ensuring their incorporation into project activities.

Policy Analysis and Documentation:

  • Help prepare policy briefs, summaries, and other relevant documentation under the guidance of the project team.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining project documentation, including reports, presentations, and correspondence.

Communication Outreach:

  • Assist in the development of communication materials, such as presentations, fact sheets, and website content, to raise awareness of the project and its objectives.
  • Support the project team in organizing knowledge-sharing events, workshops, and seminars, including logistical arrangements and participant communications.

General Support:

  • Provide administrative assistance to the project team, including organizing meetings, managing calendars, and arranging travel logistics when required.
  • Contribute to overall project coordination by assisting in tracking project progress, monitoring timelines, and updating project documentation.

Qualifications

  • Current enrolment in or completed a graduate degree program in a relevant field such as climate change, environmental science, international relations, policy, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental sustainability, climate change, or energy-related issues.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to collect, organize, and synthesize information from various sources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in using productivity tools such as Microsoft Office Suite and online research platforms.
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team.
