About the Summer School
The Nairobi Summer School on Climate Justice (NSSCJ) is a pioneering initiative of the Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) and its partners, designed to awaken, equip, and inspire a new generation of actors in Africa and beyond to tackle the urgent issue of climate justice. At its core, NSSCJ advances intra- and inter-generational equity, ensuring that climate justice perspectives are strengthened across local, national, sub-national, regional, and global interventions. NSSCJ serves as a dynamic platform for interaction, learning, mentorship, and networking, fostering disruptive ideas essential for transformative change in a world facing climate catastrophe. It brings together scholar-activists, community scholars, young climate justice advocates, and practitioners, creating a space where innovative solutions are forged, and emerging advocates are empowered.
Over the years, NSSCJ has evolved into a key gathering for shaping climate justice discourse and action. Participants engage in critical discussions and practical, solution-oriented modules that promote fair and inclusive pathways toward low-carbon, climate-resilient development. Beyond the classroom, graduates extend their impact within their communities, launching grassroots initiatives that address local climate justice challenges. Since its inception in 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, NSSCJ has successfully conducted four editions, equipping approximately 1,500 individuals from 87 countries worldwide with the tools and knowledge to drive meaningful climate action.
