Surge Africa has an exciting opportunity for a Contract Research Associate to join its dynamic team. Surge Africa is looking for someone with a solid research background and a commitment to climate justice.

Overview

Surge Africa is looking for a skilled and motivated Research Associate (Contract) to help shape Africa’s sustainability agenda through actionable research in:

• Climate Policy
• Energy Transition
• Resilience, Adaptation and Governance

What the Contract Research Associate will do

• Produce research reports with clear findings, data visualizations, and tailored policy recommendations
• Draft 5 concise fact sheets (2–3 pages) summarizing key statistics, policy gaps, and action points
• Conduct literature reviews, data analysis, and stakeholder interviews
• Create engaging visuals: charts, tables, infographics
• Manage a structured delivery plan (3–4 reports/month, 1 fact sheet/month)
• Collaborate with Surge Africa’s senior researchers, external experts, and partner organizations
• Ensure high editorial standards aligned with Surge Africa’s style guide

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Climate Policy, Environmental Science, Economics, Energy Studies, or related.
• Minimum 2 years’ research experience in think-tanks, NGOs preferably on African Climate.
• Demonstrated familiarity with Nigeria’s policy landscape and regulatory frameworks is a plus.
• Proficiency in data visualization tools (Excel, Tableau, etc.) and reference management software
• Ability to conduct stakeholder interviews and synthesize diverse viewpoints
