Overview
The Mo Ibrahim Foundation is seeking a Junior Researcher/Analyst to join its small research team. The role supports the Foundation’s key initiatives – the Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG) and the Ibrahim Forum Report – through data analysis, research production, and content dissemination. It is ideal for someone passionate about governance, policy, and development in Africa.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct desk-based research, including data collection, analysis, and visualisation.
- Draft literature reviews and syntheses from varied sources.
- Contribute to the production of reports, briefs, and presentations.
- Support the calculation and thematic analysis of the IIAG.
- Identify new data sources and governance indicators.
- Monitor relevant media, reports, and events.
- Help connect research with MIF’s advocacy priorities.
- Assist with dissemination efforts and represent the Foundation at events.
- Provide editing, fact-checking, and logistical support as needed (including for the annual Ibrahim Governance Weekend).
Qualifications & experience
- Postgraduate degree in a relevant field.
- 1-2 years’ research or analysis experience (internships count).
- Knowledge of African governance, development, or public policy.
- Experience with data analysis, management, and visualisation.
- Proven ability to write, edit and present research findings clearly.
Skills & competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Highly numerate; able to interpret and communicate data effectively.
- Proficient in Excel and MS Office; knowledge of R, Stata, or Tableau is an asset.
- Detail-oriented with strong editing and proofreading skills.
- Organised, adaptable, and able to meet deadlines.
- Eager to learn, with a collaborative attitude.
- Professional and diplomatic in multicultural settings.
