Programme Background Information
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is one of the eight partners of the Mastercard Foundation Health Collaborative project selected across Africa to build an empowered health workforce to provide targeted local solutions for the growing primary healthcare needs of the country and Africa, towards the attainment of universal health coverage (UHC).
The programme runs on three strategic pillars in concert, to provide opportunity for the development of an empowered youth in Ghana and Africa with focus of ensuring diversity, equality and inclusivity and thus, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including SDGs 3 (Good health and well-being), 4 (Quality Education), 5 (Gender Equality), and 8 (Decent work and economic growth), among others.
Application Eligibility and Details
The Africa Health Collaborative, in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, invites eligible candidates in Ghana, alumni and graduating students of its Mastercard Foundation Africa Health Collaborative Partner Universities to apply for full scholarships award to study any of the following postgraduate programs at the School of Public Health (SPH), KNUST:
- MPH/ MSc. Health Services Planning and Management (HSPM)
- MPH/ MSc. Global Health and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)
- MPhil Health Systems Research and Management (HSRM)
- MPhil Field Epidemiology and Applied Biostatistics (FEAB)
- PhD Public Health specialised in Field Epidemiology and Applied Biostatistics (FEAB)
- Research Interest:
- Epidemics or Pandemics Preparedness and Response
- PhD Public Health specialised in Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)
- Research Interest:
- Digitalization in NCDs
- Diabetes
- Hypertension
- Road Traffic Accidents
- Cardiovascular diseases and other areas related to NCDs

Requirements for award of scholarship
In conformity with the entry requirements of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, successful candidates must meet the requirements of the scholarship.
Scholarship requirements:
- Applicants must be a graduate from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and its Health Collaborative Partner Universities:
- Addis Ababa University
- African Institute for Mathematical Sciences
- African Leadership University
- Amref International University/Amref Health Africa
- Ashesi University
- Moi University
- University of Cape Town
- University of Toronto
- Applicants should have a good first degree preferrably in any of the live sciences such as medicine, veterinary medicine, nursing, midwifery, public health, environemental health, pharmacy or health related sectors – the social sciences, development and education for the MPhil, MPH/MSc programs.
- Applicants shall hold a master’s degree with a Cummulative Weighted Average (CWA) of at least 65.0 or its equivalent, from a recognised institution and must have at least one (1) publication in a peer-reviewed journal, out of the master’s dissertation/thesis for the PHD program.
- Applicants must be proficient in English Language.
- Applicants must be a Primary Healthcare Professional at the Community, sub-District, District/Municipal/Metropolitan or its equivalent.
- Applicants must gain admission to the selected program.
- Female applicants are encouraged to apply.
Funding
The Mastercard Foundation Africa Higher Education Health Collaborative will award full scholarships to successful applicants to cover the following:
- Tuition fees and other charges waiver
- Monthly stipends
- Hostel accommodation
- Research support (e.g., fieldwork etc.)

Two applications are required: Programme Application and Scholarship Application.

- Purchase an Postgraduate Ghanaian e-Voucher at a cost of GH¢350.00, containing Applicant ID and PIN, by dialing *415*55# on any network. Follow the prompts and continue on the KNUST Admissions Portal to start your application by means of verification. OR
- Purchase the Postgraduate Ghanaian form at a cost of GH¢350.00 directly on the KNUST Admissions Portal using Mobile Money or debit/credit card, and proceed with your application. Click the link below to access the portal and begin the application process:
- International applicants are required to purchase the Postgraduate International form at a cost of GH¢2,325.00 directly on the KNUST Admissions Portal using a debit/credit card. Kindly proceed to the portal via the link below to begin your application process.

Only candidates who meet the minimum admission requirements of the programme and the Mastercard Foundation Africa Health Collaborative’s Scholarship criteria will be notified of the results of their application.
