Call for Applications: Join the APSP-IPSS Expert Pool (remote or in-person depending on the assignment).

The Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), through the Africa Peace and Security Programme (APSP), is calling for experts to join its Expert Pool. The pool will support the African Union (AU), RECs, and RMs by providing research and evidence-based policy options on peace, security, governance, and development.

Position Purpose

The Africa Peace and Security Programme (APSP)’s Research and Policy Analysis Unit intends to make a substantive contribution to the contemporary discourse on peace and security on the African continent, and, more specifically, to assist the African Union (AU), Regional Economic Communities (RECs)/Regional Mechanisms (RMs) in the development of evidence-based and actionable policy options while also making substantive contributions to policy and academic literature in the field through evidence-based research and knowledge generation.

Against this backdrop and considering the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) and the African Union Commission (AUC), the Research and Policy Analysis Unit of APSP IPSS invites experts to indicate their interest in being included in its APSP-IPSS Expert Pool.

  • Copy editing
  • Translation and interpretation (AU languages)
  • Rapporteur services
  • Moderation

Minimum Academic Requirements Qualification and Experience

  • A Master’s degree in the Social Sciences and Humanities that is useful to the above-mentioned thematic scope.
  • At least 4 years of progressive work experience working with Think Tanks, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), International Organisations (IOs), and International Non-Governmental Organisations (INGOs).
  • Excellent knowledge of ICT tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in any other official language(s) of the AU is encouraged.
  • For research, editorial, review, rapporteur, and moderator roles, a good publication track record is compulsory.
  • Provable familiarity with the following principles:
    • Do No Harm
    • Inclusivity
