Overview
GAYO is looking for a dynamic and result-oriented Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator to document and identify creative ways of sharing the learnings from our successes and failures while following guidelines from our community partners.
GAYO is a youth-led, gender-balanced Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that advocates for environmental sustainability and community development. Founded in 2014, GAYO is dedicated to raising awareness, educating, and building the capacity of different stakeholders to adopt sustainable environmental practices that satisfy the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to have a good quality of life.
Position Description
As part of the Green Africa Youth Organization’s aim to provide evidence-based impact for its work across Africa, GAYO seek a dynamic and result-oriented learning and evaluation professional with creative storytelling skills to join its team. The primary responsibility of this role is to document and identify creative ways of sharing the learnings from its successes and failures while following guidelines from its community partners. To enable this, the Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator role requires the implementation of evaluation activities across all GAYO projects.
Position Roles and Responsibilities
Support project management
- Establish and maintain a hub for effective project documentation, including planning, evaluation, learning, reporting, and managing communications across the various GAYO projects.
- Liaise with GAYO country offices and grantees to coordinate evaluation and impact reporting Support the project coordinators to track relevant project indicators and the qualitative impact of projects for a variety of audiences (general public, funders and donors, policymakers, and researchers).
- Provide advisory services to project partners and seek necessary guidance from partners on significant changes in project implementation, unplanned expenditures, and opportunities.
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Provide technical leadership on evaluation, learning, and communication of impact in line with GAYO’s values. Coordinate operational evaluation of project activities, including organizing, convening, and designing periodic learning sessions with all project managers to enhance learning-based decision-making.
- The Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator supports project management for the projects by being the central point of contact for five country offices on Monitoring and Evaluation.
- Responsible for tracking the levers of change to generate evidence to demonstrate structural shifts in power in the project areas.
Strategic Communication and Storytelling
- Produce internal and external communication materials, including project newsletters, website articles, and social media posts.
- Emphasize the importance of critical stories of change in critically analyzing the impact of interventions and in sharing learning with wider audiences.
- Help provide strategic communication to partners and project stakeholders.
- Help to develop and implement online engagement strategies and PR and media strategies. Support the digital storytelling of GAYO’s grantees and project partners through diverse communications materials, events, and relevant digital platforms.
Impact Mapping & Learning
- Design and update impact maps (e.g., theory of change, logical frameworks) for various projects. Collect, synthesize, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to map project impact.
- Collaborate with teams to extract lessons learned and integrate feedback into future planning.
M&E System Design & Implementation
- Design and refine M&E frameworks and tools for new and ongoing projects.
- Support the implementation of M&E activities across project cycles (baseline, midline, endline). Ensure alignment of M&E frameworks with project goals, donor requirements, and organizational learning objectives.
Required Experience
- At least 2 years of relevant professional experience in the non-profit sector.
- Demonstrates commitment to GAYO’s mission, vision, and values;
- Strong intellectual and operational capacity in providing advisory services to stakeholders;
Skills
- Excellent communication skills, with analytic capacity and ability to synthesize information;
- Maturity and intelligence in dealing with senior and high-ranking members of national and international institutions, parliament, government, and non-government institutions;
- .Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a multicultural setting, and demonstrable ability to motivate people and work in a team setting.
- Substantial level of self-organization, being methodical, setting priorities, and paying attention to detail;
- Proven experience in people-centered storytelling, impact measurement, and reporting.
- Experience working with the latest technology and software to enhance storytelling and digital communication.
- Proven experience in report writing, copywriting, and strategic communication.
