The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), under its Agricultural Reporting and Climate Change Project, invites journalists, editors, and civil society communicators to apply for a two-day virtual training and story lab on Climate–Agriculture Reporting.
Applicants must be based in Nigeria, affiliated with a credible media platform with national or sub-regional reach and commit to publishing stories within the agreed timeline.
Call for Application: Climate-Agricultural Reporting Training
The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), under its Agricultural Reporting and Climate Change Project, invites journalists, editors, and civil society communicators to apply for a two-day virtual training and story lab on climate–agricultural reporting.
As climate change continues to disrupt agricultural systems across Nigeria and the wider sub-region through floods, droughts, desertification, pest outbreaks, and food price volatility, the need for accurate, data-driven, and solutions-oriented reporting has become more urgent than ever. Agriculture employs a significant share of the population, and smallholder farmers produce an estimated 60–70% of Nigeria’s food supply, yet they remain highly vulnerable to climate shocks.
This Climate-Agricultural Reporting Training program aims to strengthen the capacity of journalists to report on the intersection of climate change and agricultural productivity, and public policy using investigative and community-centered approaches.
Application Process
- This call is open to reporters, editors, and media-focused CSOs with experience in public interest reporting.
- Joint applications (maximum of three applicants per team) are welcome.
- Interested applicants must submit a climate–agriculture story pitch using the CJID pitch template.
- Applications from newsrooms must be submitted through an editor or newsroom manager.
- Freelance journalists must provide links to previously published work demonstrating relevant experience.
- All applicants must complete the official application form.
- For successful team applications, only the lead applicant will attend the virtual training
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must:
- Be based in Nigeria, work with a credible media platform with national or sub-regional reach
- Show proven experience in investigative, accountability, and data journalism
- Demonstrate interest and experience in agriculture, climate, or development reporting.
- Commit to producing and publishing their stories within the agreed timeline.

Female journalists and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) are strongly encouraged to apply.
All applications must be submitted on or before 16th March, 2026. Successful applicants will be notified via email. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
