Africa Climate Collaborative at UG – Professional Short Courses 2026
The Africa Climate Collaborative at the University of Ghana is committed to building the next generation of climate-ready professionals across Africa. To advance this mission, the Project is rolling out a series of Funded Professional Short Courses in climate resilience and sustainability for young Africans within Ghana.
Implemented in partnership with the Department of Geography and Resource Development, the program offers practical, career-focused training across eleven pathways spanning natural resource governance, geographic information systems (GIS), geospatial technology, climate equity, and land use planning. Each pathway is delivered in three-week modules designed to equip participants with the knowledge, tools, and networks to contribute meaningfully to climate resilience and sustainability in Africa.
Supported by the Mastercard Foundation, the Project is offering up to 100% course fee waivers to eligible participants. Awards are merit-based and open to young Africans at all professional and academic levels. In line with its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the Project strongly encourages applications from women, persons with disabilities, refugees, and internally displaced persons.
Eligibility
The program is open to young Africans who:
- Are currently residing within Ghana
- Are interested in climate resilience, sustainability, natural resource management, GIS, or related fields
- Can commit to a three-week module schedule
Course Fees & Funding
Course Module Fee: The fee per course module is GHS 4,500. This covers the full cost of instruction, course materials, and program support for the three-week module duration.
Fee Waiver and Financial Support
Up to 100% course fee waiver is available for applicants between the ages of 18 and 35.
Awards are merit-based and determined through the application process. Priority will be given to unemployed young people, particularly women, persons with disabilities, internally displaced persons, and refugees currently residing in Ghana.
Delivery modes
Courses are available in three formats to suit your schedule:
- Weekday (In-Person) Full attendance at the University of Ghana, Legon
- Weekend (In-Person) Designed for working professionals and students
- Hybrid A blend of on-campus and online participation
Professional Short Courses Modules
Participants choose one of eleven structured pathways, each comprising three modules running over three weeks including:
- Modules 1: Natural Resource Specialist
- Module 2: Climate Change, Equity and Inclusion
- Module 3: Smart Land Use and Spatial Planning
- Module 4: Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Module 5: Geointelligence
- Module 6: GIS for Image Analysis
- Module 7: GIS for Land Use and Spatial Decision Support
- Module 8: Galamsey and Risk Intelligence Mapping
- Module 9: Geospatial Technology Master
- Module 10: GIS for Sustainable Natural Resource Management
- Module 11: Remote Sensing for Natural Resource Governance
