SEI Asia is seeking a Programme Coordinator to support its sustainable development initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region. The Programme Coordinator role involves project management, stakeholder engagement and contributing to interdisciplinary teams to achieve resilient development outcomes.

Background

Based in Bangkok, SEI Asia has a diverse team of multinational experts who integrate scientific research with participatory approaches to co-develop and share knowledge, build partnerships, and influence policy for resilient development. SEI Asia’s work focuses on gender and social equity, climate adaptation, disaster risk reduction, water insecurity and integrated water resources management, transitional agriculture, renewable energy and urbanization.

SEI Asia is an affiliate of Chulalongkorn University (CU), Thailand. SEI and CU have an agreement to foster innovative scientific research combined with effective policy engagement on development and environmental challenges in Asia. The key areas of collaboration are intellectual engagement for joint research applications and fund mobilization, lectures and seminars for CU students, post-graduate supervision and examination, and CU–SEI employee links.

The programme

The Centre for Finance for Sustainability Bangkok (CFSB), hosted by SEI Asia, collaborates with the private sector and financial hubs in the region to realign the financial sectors with the global objectives of the Paris Agreement, the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Thailand’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

Since its launch in 2022, the CFSB has launched projects on climate adaptation finance and developed the platform Aid Atlas for finance for development and official assistance. CFSB is also implementing the Inclusive Climate Finance for Communities in the Asia Pacific (ICCAP) project. The main stakeholders of ICCAP include private sector financial service providers (FSPs) and public sector entities, partnering to create viable financial instruments, models and systems to finance adaptation solutions for climate-vulnerable communities in the Asia Pacific.

The Programme Coordinator role

The Programme Coordinator will undertake significant responsibilities in projects, guided by their line manager. Responsibilities include supporting project delivery in various specific areas, contributing to inter-disciplinary teams within SEI and with partner organizations, and facilitating SEI’s involvement in external events and engagements, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality outputs.

Programme Coordinator Key duties and responsibilities

  • Assist project leaders in demonstrating projects and programme outcomes.
  • Provide coordination support for specific projects.
  • Develop professional relationships and networks within and beyond SEI, including with current and potential partners and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to communicating SEI’s work with partners and stakeholders.

Programme Coordinator Areas of accountability

  • Identify funding opportunities and coordinate proposal preparation with other staff.
  • Connect own work with the broader SEI efforts, regionally and globally.
  • Complete assigned tasks within budget and timeframe constraints.
  • Potentially manage interns or assistants.
  • Maintain professional behaviour and respectful engagement with all colleagues.

Who you are

We seek a proactive and competent professional to support our programme, someone who can operate independently and consistently deliver high-quality outcomes.

Programme Coordinator Formal qualifications and knowledge

  • A Bachelor’s degree with at least four years of work experience, or a Master’s degree with at least two years in relevant fields.
  • Proven experience in project administration, coordination and working within interdisciplinary teams.

Programme Coordinator Desirable qualifications

  • Knowledge in project management, climate finance, policy, sustainable development and participatory research.
  • Experience in the Asia and Pacific regions, particularly Southeast and/or South Asia.
  • Proficiency in an Asian language is an advantage.

Personal skills required

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Strong teamwork, planning, organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to positively influence team dynamics and uphold SEI’s core values in their everyday work.
  • Skilful in providing and receiving constructive feedback.
