Programme Overview

The Simiyu Climate Resilience Project (SCRP) aims to enhance the climate resilience of rural and urban households, especially small-scale farmers and women, in the Simiyu Region. It also seeks to improve policies for climate change adaptation. The fourth component of SCRP focuses on reducing vulnerability through climate-adapted and integrated sanitation and hygiene practices in the Busega, Bariadi, and Itilima districts. This involves constructing faecal sludge treatment systems, acquiring faecal sludge exhauster trucks, creating gender-sensitive sanitation facilities, and providing materials for improved household latrines. The specific assignment for SNV within this component includes setting up and maintaining public gender-sensitive sanitation solutions (e.g., public toilets at markets, schools, and health care facilities) and supervising the construction of at least 1,000 improved household toilets.

Job Description

The programme is looking to recruit an energetic Senior Field intern to support the programme with implementation of on the ground activities in Simiyu. The Senior Field intern will support the SCRP Program with specific tasks across several key areas of implementation:

Key Responsibility:

Administration Logistics

  • Day-to-day support role for the site supervisor in coordinating meetings, workshops and interactions with local masons and operators.
  • To successfully support the site supervisor through the accurate and timely delivery of administrative and financial processes during workshops and meetings

Technical support

  • To successfully support the SCRP Team with Technical and Engineering support in the supervision of the construction of household toilets with close collaboration from the site supervisor and the team leader.
  • Support day-to-day field supervisor for all assignments.
  • Support the field supervisor to coordinate the household supervision visits and key training roles for both the public caretakers/operators and local masons.
  • To successfully support the site supervisor with interactions with local masons and operators in public toilets.
  • Support Monitoring and evaluation tasks of the programme, including data collection coordination, analysis and presentation of findings.

Community Mobilization and Research

  • Support Innovation and create engaging documentation of programme activities including video, audio, and written materials.
  • Community mobilization in partnership with LGA health officers to trigger sanitation demand as part of sanitation marketing.
  • To support with community mobilization, stakeholders’ engagement and any other administrative works.
  • Support the communication and sanitation marketing experts in community, local masons, operators, and stakeholders’ mobilization.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Engineering or public/environmental health degree (Preferably in Water and Sanitation, Environment, Civil engineering or equivalent).
  • Practical experience in WASH or engineering field works linked to the construction of Household latrines and Public toilets is an added advantage
  • Good understanding of the WASH sector particularly peri-urban/rural sanitation issues in Tanzania.
  • Innovative, entrepreneurial, business oriented.
  • Proficiency in Excel (including pivot tables for data analysis)
  • Experience of applications based on data collection system
  • Have good writing skills, and budgeting.
  • Willingness to work in remote areas.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail

  • Must understand and speak fluent Sukuma language.
