Expected duration

Remote Translators are required for Translation services during COP 14 / 6 working days from 23-28 October 2023 and Proofreading of COP14 documents for up to 60 hours, before and after COP14 (Contract duration 1 September-30 November 2023)

Duties and Responsibilities

The Translator or consultant will support the UNEP/CMS Secretariat during the following meetings:

¿ 54th Meeting of the Standing Committee (22 October 2023)
¿ The 14th Meeting of the Conference of Parties (23-26 and 28 October 2023)
¿ the 55th Meeting of the Standing Committee, (28 October 2023)

The Translator or individual contractor will support the CMS Secretariat during the 14th Meeting of the
Conference of the Parties (COP14) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from 23 – 28 October 2023. The meeting will be held in the 3 official CMS languages (English, French and Spanish). The individual contractor will be part of the translation team remotely and will translate official documents from English into French and/or Spanish and vice versa for and during the meeting.

In addition, 1 French and 1 Spanish Translator or individual contractor will proofread CoP14 documents in French or Spanish before and after the meeting, as needed.

UN, UNEP and CMS terminology must be respected and coherency in the vocabulary used must be maintained. Verification of terminology and accuracy of quotations reproduced are responsibility of the Translator team. In case of text ambiguity, the Translator team should contract the officer requesting the work for clarification, preferably by email. The Translator team member will use the official documents of the CMS, UNEP and UN as reference sources. These documents are published in the following website www.cms.int (CMS). Qualifications/special skills

The individual contractor should have editing and writing skills, experience and be used to paying great attention to details and accuracy.

Knowledge of terminology used in the UN, UNEP and the CMS Secretariat.

Additional Information

Native level command of French and/or Spanish is essential. Demonstrated experience working with large documents, with a focus on attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. Experience in the translation or publications field is desirable. Past experience with CMS is a highly desirable.
