Current staffing levels within the center include 29 colleagues, hailing from seven different countries in the Americas, conducting policy relevant research on water management and sustainable transitions. About the Finance Specialist role

We are recruiting a Finance Specialist, under the supervision of the SEI Latin America Operations Manager, to ensure the continued sound management of financial resources within our growing organization. As a part of a global non-profit, SEI Latin America acts as one of the cost centres within the global SEI framework, with the goal of breaking even annually. This position entails ensuring that financial management and record-keeping within SEI Latin America adhere to the financial management procedures established by SEI Headquarters, while also complying with all relevant financial management regulations for non-profit organizations in Colombia.

Finance Specialist main responsibilities

• Develop and enhance the capacity to use budget tools and templates for project budgeting within the centre.
• Improve the quality of project budgets by early engagement with Project Leaders providing appropriate guidance and review, including specific funder financial conditions.
• Enhance financial monitoring and reporting of projects, supporting the development of suitable tracking tools, monitoring expenditures, and providing alerts and recommendations for deviations and necessary actions.
• Prepare project financial reports for funder submission.
• Organize the preparation and submission of invoices according to project schedules.
• Ensure high-quality financial management procedures at the centre, collaborating with a contracted Colombian accounting firm and providing necessary documentation for audits.
• Provide a proper introduction to financial management procedures, time reporting, etc., for new employees.
• Manage the registration of payments in the online banking system.
• Prepare and submit monthly cash books to SEI Headquarters.
• Managing accounting records according to standard procedures, ensuring timely and GAAP-compliant reporting.
• Assist the Centre Management Team with important financial decisions.

Finance Specialist Preferred skills and experience

• Undergraduate degree in accounting.
• Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience in accounting and finance functions.
• Knowledge of accounting processes in Colombia.
• Understanding of non-profit accounting and finance is advantageous.
• Problem-solving skills.
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
