Do you have a background in data engineering within cloud systems? Are you interesting in building a global data platform based in the modern data stack?

Greenpeace International is looking for a Data Architect for our Data Platform Programme. 

Data Platform development is not new to Greenpeace, we’ve been investing and have already built out a data platform using the modern data stack that serves 22 Greenpeace offices today. We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to act as the technology leadership within our Data Platform programme.

In this Data Architect role, you’ll be part of the larger Data, Insights and Engineering teams at Greenpeace International holding a leadership position within the Data Managers group. You’ll help modernize and revolutionize how data is used to create meaningful change in the world.

In this Data Architect role you will:

  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications, including data streams, integrations, transformations, databases, and data warehouses.
  • Define a technical and architectural strategy for our data platform programme
  • Define and evangelize the data architecture framework, standards, and principles.
  • Define reference architecture for others to follow in creating and improving data systems.
  • Collaborate with departments, stakeholders, partners, and vendors.
  • Drive uptake of standards, development tools, agile working practices, and technological innovations.
  • Lead technical implementation and management of Greenpeace International data governance policy as Technical Data Steward.

Data Architect Job requirements

What we’re looking for:

Remember no one has every skill or experience needed for this role and you’ll have the opportunity to learn a lot from the team. We believe someone who has a few of these is well suited to exceed in this role:

  • B.Sc. or University degree relevant to information technology or equivalent experience.
  • Experience as a senior data engineer or software engineer, with expertise to lead projects and design without supervision.
  • Strong experience with data engineering solutions, specifically on Google Cloud Platform and its serverless computing and data analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with the modern data stack, including ingestion, storage, DBT, orchestration, reverse ETL and monitoring tooling. (Such as: Airbyte, Fivetran, Stitch, Mage, Big Query, DBT, Airflow)
  • Expert level understanding of advanced SQL.
  • Proficiency in Python and NodeJS software development focused on data engineering and APIs.
  • Experience defining Infrastructure as Code.
  • Excellent technical and end-user documentation skills.
  • Demonstrable support for and belief in the Greenpeace network core aims and values.
