What is the ECOSOC Youth Forum?
The ECOSOC Youth Forum, ie the annual youth forum of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, is a platform that bring together young people from around the world to engage in deliberations on 2030 Agenda. It has evolved into a key platform where young people, high-level Government representatives and other stakeholders of the youth sector contribute to policy discussions through their positions, ideas, solutions, and innovations for the SDGs. It is organically connected with key UN processes and events under the umbrella framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
This year’s ECOSOC Youth Forum will take place from the 16th-18th April 2024 at the UN Headquarters in New York and a Youth Blast comprising capacity-building and training activities will take place on the 15th April 2024 in New York.
The theme of the 2024 ECOSOC Youth Forum will align with that of the 2024 High-level Political Forum on “Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”. Ahead of the Summit of the Future to be held in September 2024, young people will have the opportunity to present to Member States their views, ideas and vision. The 2024 Youth Forum will be a three-day event with the last day dedicated to the preparation of the 2024 Summit of the Future. The event will be held in a hybrid format allowing for opportunities for in-person and virtual participation. The Forum will include opening and closing plenary sessions with representatives from youth organizations as well as high-level and keynote speakers. Youth speakers will also deliver short presentations between sessions, sharing personal stories and innovative solutions related to the SDGs. The value of the Youth Forum was recognized in the Secretary-General “Critical milestones towards coherent, efficient and inclusive follow-up and review at the global level” (A/70/684), prepared in response to paragraph 90 of the 2030 Agenda, recognizes the potential of the ECOSOC Youth Forum by stating that the High-level Political Forum could be informed by and benefit from several specific Economic and Social Council forums covering cross-cutting issues in the context of the SDGs, including the existing forum on youth (para 31).
APPLY AS SPEAKER
MGCY and other youth co-organisers of the ECOSOC Youth Forum are pleased to share that currently approximately a few spots are available for participation of youth as speakers at the different sessions of the forum. Funding is also available for a few young people (currently 5 funded spots and we are working to expand this number). Please apply through this form to be considered for these and any future funded spots.
In case you are a young person and interested to apply for the speaking roles/funded spots, please do so through this application form. This same form can also be used to apply for being a self-funded speaker (i.e. if you are able to cover your own costs for participation).
First deadlines: 24 February 2024, 11 pm New York time to be considered as a speaker
