APRI – Africa Policy Research Institute is a Berlin-based, independent, non-partisan policy institute researching key policy issues affecting the African continent. APRI has three main program areas: economy & society, Africa’s Digital Agenda, and climate change.

About the Intern- Climate Change Program role

APRI, under the climate change Program, is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Project Intern to support the organization and documentation of its upcoming climate change reporting workshop. The Intern- Climate Change Program will work closely with the team to assist in various organizational and research activities in the areas of climate change reporting in Global South contexts, gaining valuable experience in the dimensions and dynamics of climate change reporting and communication, particularly in African Countries.  

This internship provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to a meaningful project while developing skills and knowledge in the fields of climate communication,  environmental sustainability, climate protection, and communication.

Intern- Climate Change Program Responsibilities

  • Research Assistance:
    • Assist in conducting research on climate change communication and reporting in Global South Countries, particularly countries in Africa, including data collection, literature reviews, and analysis of existing challenges and opportunities for compelling and impactful reporting
    • Support the project team in gathering relevant information and data, organizing research findings, and contributing to the preparation of the event outputs.
    • Help maintain a comprehensive database of research sources and relevant materials.
  • Workshop/ Event Support:
    • Assist in the coordination of workshop participants and organizers, meetings, including logistical arrangements, participant communications, and material preparation.
    • Attend meetings and take minutes to capture key discussion points and action items.
    • Support the project team in documenting events inputs and ensuring their incorporation into project outputs
  • Communication and Outreach:
    • Assist in the development of communication materials, such as presentations, fact sheets, and website content, to raise awareness of the workshop and its objectives.
    • Support the project team in organizing the workshops including logistical arrangements and participant communications.
    • Contribute to the workshop´s social media presence by generating content and engaging with relevant stakeholders online.
  • General Support:
    • Provide administrative assistance to the team, including organizing meetings, managing calendars, and arranging travel logistics when required.
    • Contribute to overall project coordination by assisting in tracking project progress, monitoring timelines, and updating documentation.

Intern- Climate Change Program Qualifications

  • Current enrolment in or completed master’s degree program in a relevant field such as climate change, environmental science, journalism, communication studies, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental sustainability, climate change, and climate reporting and communication.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to collect, organize, and synthesize information from various sources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in using productivity tools such as Microsoft Office Suite and online research platforms.
  • Self-motivated and able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize deadlines.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic and diverse working environment.
