China leads the world in renewable energy employment, with over 5.5 million renewable energy jobs, accounting for 41% of the global total. Other major renewable energy employers include Brazil, India, and the European Union.

IRENA is also committed to promoting gender balance in the renewable energy sector. While solar power employs more women than other renewable sectors, with 40% of full-time positions, there is still a need for more education, training, and equal access to career paths for women, youth, and minorities in the historically male-dominated energy industry.
