Finance Project Manager position Job description

Greenpeace International is looking for a Finance Project Manager to support the build of the new Greenpeace ship.

The Finance Project Manager plays a critical role in overseeing the financial aspects of the shipbuilding project, ensuring fiscal responsibility, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements. The Finance Project Manager will work closely with the project team, senior management, and external stakeholders to manage budgets, analyse costs, and provide strategic financial guidance throughout the project lifecycle. The Finance Project Manager role will be fully dedicated to the new ship project as per the needs of the project, and it could also support other finance cross-functional projects depending on the time available.

In this Finance Project Manager role you:

  • Develop comprehensive project budgets and forecasts, including quarterly income projections, ensuring accuracy and adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Conduct financial analysis to evaluate project feasibility, identify cost-saving opportunities, and mitigate financial risks.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance to project teams and senior management to optimize project outcomes.
  • Monitor project income, expenditures, and cash flow projections, implementing corrective actions as necessary to manage liquidity and funding needs.
  • Track project costs (labour, materials, equipment, overhead) and collaborate with project managers and procurement teams to optimize resource allocation and minimize cost overruns.
  • Develop and manage budget processes for initial spare parts and warranty periods.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory agencies for financial audits and inspections.
  • Review and manage the financial aspects of contracts with financial institutions, suppliers, subcontractors, and service providers, ensuring favourable terms.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors, resolving financial disputes professionally.
  • Develop and strengthen strategic working relationships with various stakeholders, ensuring a holistic approach in the financial execution of the new ship build project.
  • Collaborate closely with GPI’s Legal Team to fulfil contractual obligations and adhere to GPI policies.

Finance Project Manager Job requirements

Remember no one has every skill or experience needed for this Finance Project Manager role and you’ll have the opportunity to learn a lot from the team. Greenpeace believe someone who has a few of these is well suited to excel in this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CFA) preferred.
  • Proven experience in financial project management roles, ideally within the construction or maritime industry, with a focus on project accounting, financial planning, cost control, and stakeholder management.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to support decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in financial modelling, budgeting, and forecasting techniques, with experience using financial management software and ERP systems.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations. Knowledge of industry standards applicable to ship construction projects is a plus.
  • Ability to work under pressure and effectively manage workload.
  • Proactive and solutions-focused.
  • Flexible approach to working with colleagues across multiple time zones and open to international travel.
  • Support for and belief in the core aims and values of Greenpeace.
