Deakin University Scholarship for Excellence for International students 2023 is aimed at both undergraduates and postgraduates, this scholarship is designed for students who show exceptional promise within or beyond their academic achievements. Strong academic performance or excellence in extracurricular activities, sport, the Arts, community service or leadership will hold the key to success.

Applications for Trimester 1 2023 open 1 September 2022.

Bachelor’s applications for Trimester 1 2023 close 9 January 2023 at 5pm.

Postgraduate and honours applications for Trimester 1 2023 close 15 February 2023 at 5pm.

Deakin University Scholarship for Excellence for International students 2023 Bachelor Scholarship offer rounds

Early Round: To be considered for these early round scholarship offers you will need to submit your application and all supporting documentation by 5 December 2022 at 5pm.

Round 1: To be considered for these Round 1 scholarship offers you will need to submit your application and all supporting documentation by 9 January 2023 at 5pm.

We will be aiming for full allocation at this round.

Re-offer Round: To be considered for any remaining scholarships, not taken up in previous offer rounds, you will need to submit your application and all supporting documentation by 2 February 2023 at 5pm.

All scholarships will be offered within six weeks of the Re-offer round closing date.

Benefits

The scholarship is awarded for the normal full time duration of the course. Different study load rules apply to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Undergraduate studies

$5000 per year ($625 per credit point) paid as cash or towards student contributions (tuition fees) – the choice is yours!

Postgraduate studies

$10,000 per year ($1250 per credit point) paid as cash or towards student contributions (tuition fees) – the choice is yours!

Eligibility criteria

Deakin University Scholarship for Excellence for International students 2023 Prospective candidates should ensure they meet all criteria before submitting their application.

To be eligible you must be:

  • an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa
  • commencing or currently enrolled in a bachelor or honours degree in a Commonwealth supported place (CSP), or postgraduate by coursework degree (CSP or full fee)
  • enrolled at Deakin University in Trimester 1 2023
  • bachelor and honours students enrolled full time unless there are exceptional circumstances preventing full time study, or postgraduate students enrolled in at least two credit points a trimester
  • able to demonstrate achievement in one of the following:
    • an ATAR of at least 85
    • a Weighted Average Mark (WAM)/Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 80 in previous tertiary study
    • leadership experience
    • elite sports performance
    • community service
    • volunteer activities
    • the Arts
    • any other achievement.

Consideration will be given to students experiencing financial or personal hardship.

Conditions

Continued eligibility is subject to maintaining a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 65.

Your application

Supporting documents

As part of the application process you will also be required to upload supporting documentation.

Make sure you choose the correct Document type when you upload your documents as it will make a difference. If your documents are uploaded into the incorrect type they will not be considered when assessing your application. Remember it is quality, not quantity, which you need to provide. Aim to provide documents which are current, relevant and concise.

The supporting documentation required includes:

  • evidence of your previous WAM or GPA (if completed at another institution)
  • evidence of any leadership activities or community service achievements
  • evidence of any sporting or other achievements.

One application for three scholarships:

When applying direct to Deakin for this scholarship, select either the ‘Undergraduate Scholarship Application Tri/Sem 1 2023‘ or the ‘Postgraduate Scholarship Application Tri/Sem 1 2023‘ option and, if eligible, your application will automatically be considered for this scholarship and the Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Scholarship and Deakin Student Support Scholarship in the selection process.

This reduces the number of scholarships you have to apply for and increases your chances of receiving a Deakin scholarship.

What happens next

Your application will be assessed and ranked based on the details you provide and your supporting documentation.

Bachelor applicants, we will commence offering a limited number of scholarships towards the end of December 2022 with the remainder of scholarships offered progressively from mid-January 2023. To give your application the best chance possible of being considered in all offer rounds, you should submit your application and supporting documentation by 5 December 2022 at 5pm.

Postgraduate and honours applicants, all offers will be made after the application closing date of the 15 February 2023 at 5pm.

If you are successful, you will be contacted by the email address you nominated within your application portal account, unsuccessful applicants will not be contacted.

You’ll find out if you were successful usually within six weeks of the application closing date. If you have not received an offer by this time, you have been unsuccessful. You can view the status of your application via your scholarship application portal account.
