Call for Applications: Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders

Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders (AFYEL) is a six months competency building program to prepare 60 smart energy leaders annually who will deliver an electrified Africa by providing intense and practical education on four important energy generating sources and technology – Hydropower, Onshore Wind, Solar Power and Bioenergy across three focal areas – Engineering, Economics and Finance.

The ambition of the program is to train graduates, post graduates or PhD students of Physics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Energy Economics, Mechanical Engineering, Building / Construction Engineering, Physics and Solar Energy or related courses on core aspects of energy generation with specific focus on Renewable Energy Technology and opportunities for career advancement in the energy value chain.

The Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders (AFYEL) is an education venture initiated by The Renewable Energy Technology Training Institute in Partnership with RETTI Virtual University, government agencies, top Academic institutions and private sector companies.

Who is the Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders for?

The ambition of the program is to train and empower young African recent graduates and final year students of Electrical, electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, Physics and solar energy, and Software Engineering with a proper understanding of renewable energy technologies, and opportunities for career advancement in the value chain in Energy.

What is the aim of the Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders?

The goal is to churn out a competent workforce for the renewable energy industry and build entrepreneurs who will advance access to clean energy to 600 Million in Africa without Access and retain young African talent in a crucial sector like renewable energy, which is of paramount importance to unlock Africa’s sustainable future. The program offers knowledge on core aspects of solar PV technologies, Wind Technologies, and bioenergy. The program also aims to create a networking platform for participants in order to maximize impact.

Program structure

The six months fellowship will include expert training sessions facilitated across mentioned learning areas. The goal is to pass on knowledge and deep understanding of the areas to enable participants to get empowered and gain clarity to create solutions in the area or serve as competent employee in one of the industries, pursue a higher degree program or become experts in the field. Fellows will be encouraged to come up with tech solutions to identified problems.
