Our team at Energy Infrastructures and Geothermal Energy IEG is developing a tool that enables the seamless collection of datasets pertaining to energy grids from open-access databases. To extend the tool’s usability, we are seeking a working student who has interest in data and is skilled in Python programming and data handling to join as Student research assistant.
 

What you will do

  • Being actively in seek of open-access energy-related data for German.
  • Contribution to the design and development of our evolving software packages.
  • Work closely with the product management team to understand user requirements and translate them into actionable development tasks.
  • Familiarity with data handling techniques, including data cleaning, transformation, and storage in various formats (CSV, JSON, databases, etc.).

What you bring to the table

  • You are pursuing a degree in computer science, electrical engineering, the natural sciences or a related field with a focus on IT. 
  • Python programming skills and hands-on experience in Python development.
  • Familiarity with various Python packages such as Shapely and geopandas.
  • Familiarity with databases, particularly MongoDB.
  • Passion for learning new technologies and keeping up-to-date with the latest trends.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Proficiency in the German language is required to effectively extract relevant information from German-language sources to contribute to our data collection efforts.

The weekly working time is 39 hours. This Student research assistant position is also available on a part-time basis.
