Employment of short term staff

The African Development Bank, from time to time, needs extra services provided by persons other than its permanent staff to assist with additional activities not covered in the normal work program; replacement of regular personnel who are absent over long periods; and to occupy vacant positions within the time limits set by the Bank. The Bank aims to recruit candidates who possess the relevant academic background/training, experience, and in-depth technical knowledge in the required disciplines.

Terms and conditions of employment

The terms and conditions of the short-term appointment are stipulated in the letter of offer that will be signed by the newcomer and highlights the following:

1. The duration of the contract is for a minimum of 15 days and the duration of a short-term contract shall not exceed six (6) months per contract period.
2. The first cumulative period of employment shall not exceed a total of thirty-six (36) months. The renewal of contract within this cumulative period of 36 months is based on the performance evaluation and the need for such short-term services. After the first cumulative period, short-term staff are expected to observe a six-month “Cooling off” period after which the short-term staff can return through the Bank’s competitive process for another final cumulative period of 36 months.
