The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an intergovernmental organisation committed to advancing the security of energy supply, economic growth and environmental sustainability through energy policy cooperation. The IEA operates as an autonomous body within the framework of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Both the OECD and the IEA seek opportunities to work with an increasing number of non-members of growing importance to the world economy (countries beyond the IEA).

The Agency aims to foster the contribution of the energy sector to economic development and environmental sustainability across the globe. The IEA seeks to recruit an intern to work in the Latin American energy sector and contribute to the activities of the Latin America Programme. The International Energy Agency Internship work will have a strong focus on Brazil but will also cover other Latin American countries, mainly Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico. The intern will provide strong analytical, drafting and research support for specific projects. The selected candidate will work in a team of enthusiastic professionals under the supervision of the Latin America Programme Manager. 

International Energy Agency Internship: Main responsibilities
• Research: Carry out topical literature reviews; collect, review and summarize data and analyses on Brazil and overall Latin American energy issues, especially on low-carbon hydrogen, critical minerals for the energy transition, industrial decarbonization, regional energy integration and people-centred clean energy transitions;
• Drafting documents and analyses in areas of work of the Latin America Programme, both in English and Portuguese;
• Events: Support the organisation of virtual and in-person IEA events.
• Programme management: Support the implementation of broader activities of the IEA Latin America Programme, in liaison with counterparts in the region and in coordination with colleagues from across the IEA.

International Energy Agency Internship Ideal Candidate Profile
• Citizen of an OECD Member Country (required);
• PhD or Master student, in relevant disciplines such as engineering, energy, or development studies (student status is required throughout the duration of the internship);
• Languages: Excellent drafting skills in English and Portuguese are a requirement; knowledge of Spanish would be an asset.
• Proven experience working with/in Latin America (in particular Brazil) on energy-related issues through studies, internships or professional activities
• Good organisational skills: the ability to work effectively on the basis of general instructions with the capacity to prioritise tasks, often according to tight deadlines;
• Ability to work in a multicultural and team-oriented environment.

Duration and work locationof the International Energy Agency Internship 

• 4 to 6 months (starting in September 2023) 

• Work location: In person, Paris, France (non-negotiable) 

• Availability: Full-time (negotiable) 

• The selected candidate will be provided with a monthly indemnity of approx. EUR 1000.
