Enabling the network of expertise across the SDGs (and Agenda 2063 in Africa), within and beyond UNDP, SDG Integration is the team that influences, shapes, and activates platforms for intersectional collaboration for complex, multi-faceted, and ‘frontier’ issues in sustainable development. As such, the SDG Integration team is at the heart of UNDP’s Global Policy Network (GPN). The SDG Integration Team in Africa focuses on three broad areas:

  • Accelerate SDGs and A2063 – support the design and implementation of integrated policy solutions to accelerate SDGs and Agenda 2063.
  • Knowledge and learning – foster knowledge, learning and community know-how to meet development needs and solve development challenges; and
  • Data and insights – Advancing evidence-based decision-making enhanced with data-led insights, R&D capabilities, and integrated digital systems.

Position Purpose:

Under the guidance and supervision of the SDG Integration Advisor, the SDG Integration Analyst will support the three broad areas, notably: – accelerate SDGs and A2063, knowledge and learning, and data and insights. The SDG Integration Analyst will be based at the UNDP Regional Service Centre for Africa (RSCA) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In supporting the three broad areas, the incumbent will work with UNDP Country Offices in support of Member States efforts to implement both the SDGs and Agenda 2063. The SDG Integration Analyst will also work with Africa Union Commission to support the implementation of the Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan of Agenda 2063.

UNDP adopts a portfolio approach to accommodate changing business needs and leverage linkages across interventions to achieve its strategic goals. This is a recognition of interconnected nature of development risks & crises that the world is facing and that call for assembling of multidisciplinary teams for an integrated & systemic response. Therefore, UNDP personnel are expected to work across issues, units, functions, teams, and projects in multidisciplinary teams in order to enhance and enable horizontal collaboration.
 

SDG Integration Analyst Duties and Responsibilities

Support efforts to accelerate SDGs and A2063 across Africa:

  • Work closely with the UNDP data futures platforms in support of efforts to accelerate SDGs and A2063.
  • Articulate and track metrics and targets related to the acceleration of SDGs and A2063.
  • Collect and/or support the process of collecting relevant data.
  • Update the metrics related to acceleration of SDGs and A2063 for Member States, RSCA, UNDP Country Offices, and partners.

Support integration of SDGs and A2063:

  • Analyze public policy documents for SDG Integration, including national and local development plans, budgets, statistical frameworks, country programme documents etc.
  • Engage with and provide coaching to UNDP teams and partners to facilitate their efforts to integrate SDGs and A2063.
  • Liaise with the Office of Strategic Planning and Delivery of the Africa Union Commission in supporting the alignment efforts.

Support the management of knowledge products, reviews, and learning:

  • Initiate and contribute to the creation and preparation of knowledge products e.g., policy briefs, on SDG Integration
  • Coordinate the organization and presentation of knowledge sharing events and workshops.
  • Engage with the relevant communities of practice in supporting reviews and learning.
  • Prepare materials for regular reviews on implementation of SDGs and A2063.
  • Follow up on and monitor post-review actions with the relevant teams as an input into subsequent reviews.

Support Country Offices and partners demands, and undertake corporate responsibilities:

  • Keep track and manage SDG Integration related requests from UNDP Country Offices and partners.
  • Track resources for the implementation of SDG Integration activities
  • Contribute to the reporting of results through UNDP’s Results Oriented Annual Reports
  • Contribute to the annual planning cycle as well as the Corporate Strategic Plan

Support efforts to build the capacities, especially for young people:

  • Coordinate the UN Online Volunteer efforts as a vehicle to build the capacities of young people in SDG integration and broadly in development policy across the continent.
  • Make suggestions for continuous improvement in the manner in which the capacities are built in subsequent cohorts.
  • Initiate and run capacity building efforts.

The SDG Integration Analyst performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

SDG Integration Analyst Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) OR Bachelor’s with additional 2 years of experience in economics, business administration, social sciences, data science, development studies or related disciplines. 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years (with Masters) and 4 years (with Bachelors) of professional work experience providing policy advice and programme support, including in the general area of SDG Integration, public policy formulation and coordination in different development contexts.
  • At least one year experience working in developing country settings is required, experience in Africa is an asset.
     

Language:

  • Fluency in English, both written and oral. Working knowledge of another UN language is an asset.

Please note that continuance of SDG Integration Analyst appointment beyond the initial 12 months is contingent upon the successful completion of a probationary period.
