Objective of the internship
Research Internship at Nordic Africa Institute allows research interns at NAI to learn from an interdisciplinary environment. Through this internship, the intern will have the opportunity to gain knowledge on the subject area as well as working in a research institution. Under the direction of the project leader, the intern will primarily be focusing on key duties but also get a chance to participate in some institutional activities.
Key duties
- Support the process of data analysis of a dataset on social equity and climate adaptation from the CGIAR Research Climate Resilience project, focusing specifically on participatory social research data from Kenya and the Philippines: https://www.cgiar.org/initiative/climate-resilience/External link.
- Contribution to coding of a qualitative dataset using NVIVO 14 (training given).
- Production of “information packs” on core themes (for example on climate adaptation) from a dataset.
Qualifications and required skills for the Research Internship
- MSc candidacy or qualification in disciplines such as anthropology, history, politics, human geography, global development studies, international relations or other relevant social sciences.
- Interest and/ or knowledge relevant to gender issues, inequality, equity, and how these issues relate to rural contexts and agricultural populations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of scholarly and policy thinking on sustainability and / or climate adaptation will be an advantage.
- Methodological skills training, including qualitative data collection and analysis.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent writing skills
- A good command of spoken and written English.
- The intern will be supervised by a NAI researcher but should have an ability to work independently.
