Funded traineeship for young graduates at the EU Delegation to the Republic of Mauritius and to the Republic of Seychelles

Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Mauritius, Seychelles and the Indian Ocean region?

EU offer:

A funded traineeship of up to 6 months within the Political, Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Mauritius and to the Republic of Seychelles, starting in May 2024.

The Political, Press and Information Section of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Mauritius and to the Republic of Seychelles is responsible for the following activities:

  • Prepare annual Partnership Dialogue and other political meetings
  • Prepare political reports, briefings, notes for HQ
  • Uphold, defend and disseminate the position of the European Union in diverse areas in Mauritius and Seychelles
  • Maintain a wide network of contacts and keeping itself informed about the situation in Mauritius and Seychelles
  • Inform the relevant stakeholders about the activities and policies of the European Union and its institutions
  • Elaborate and implement the Communication strategy of the Delegation around its values and its activities in Mauritius, Seychelles and the region through the Indian Ocean Commission with the support of other relevant sections
  • Coordinate and implement public diplomacy activities of the Delegation
  • Monitor EU visibility in the local/regional media
  • Distribute press releases to the local/regional media in Mauritius and Seychelles
  • Prepare and distribute the daily press reviews to our HQ and EU resident and non-resident Member States
  • Update the Delegation’s website and social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram and YouTube)

The Head of the Section participates in regular meetings with government members, political parties, EU Member States, the Diplomatic corps, civil society and other stakeholders.

Main tasks:

  • Conducting research and analysing information (political, economic, social developments in Mauritius, Seychelles and the region)
  • Drafting contributions for a wide range of reports, briefings, notes
  • Drafting the Daily Press Review concerning Mauritius, Seychelles and the region
  • Helping in the organisation of public, cultural and visibility events, seminars and conferences, etc.
  • Updating content for the Delegation’s social media platforms (Facebook/Twitter)
  • Other tasks set by the Head of Section
We look for:

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • At least a Bachelor’s level in any of the following fields: International Relations, Political Sciences , Law, Journalism, Communication or Public Administration
  • Fluency in English, French and Mauritian Creole

Important information to read before applying

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable,  based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
