Overview

Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Partnership with the African Union?

EU offers:

A Funded traineeship for young graduates at the EU Delegation to the African Union of up to 6 months within the Political, Press and Information – PPI Section of the EU Delegation to the African Union, starting in 2 May 2025 

Main tasks: 

Support both Political, Press and Information Section by:

  • Preparatory work for the 2025 EU-AU Ministerial Conference and subsequent Summit and other related events and initiatives.
  • Contribute to the communication and visibility work of the EU Delegation: a) drafting press releases, project fiches and other communication documents; b) contributing to the organisation of events; c) supporting in any other strategic communication tasks.
  • Undertake research on some specific Political/Cooperation issues and make summaries of key papers and of meetings.
  • Attending meetings and preparing minutes of those;
  • Contributing to the preparation of internal documents, statements, speeches, reports and information collection. Particular focus will be on mobility and migration, youth, economic integration, G20 and multilateral relations;
  • Support as needed the Policy and Cooperation Section on dedicated files notably in view of the 2025 Ministerial conference and subsequent Summit

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Only applicants currently residing in Ethiopia will be considered.
  • Master’s degree in political science, international relations, economics, law or other social studies
  • Maximum 1 year of work experience
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent analytical and drafting skills, a keen understanding of and interest in African Union’s politics, economics and governance
  • A hands-on, pro-active, reliable attitude, an openness to learning, and willingness to contribute with ideas.

Important information to read before applying

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee. 

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.

The Funded traineeship for young graduates at the EU Delegation to the African Union can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin. 

Citizens from EU Member states:

  • must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
  • must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable,  based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
